This ain’t my first rodeo, oh wait …

Unfortunately, I’ve missed the food truck rodeos in the past. I’ve been out of town and really bummed to miss this event that everyone keeps raving about.

photo 1I love downtown Raleigh. I love food trucks. So last night in lieu of our regular community group meeting on Sunday nights, we decided to hit up the downtown food truck rodeo. A few of us walked up to Fayetteville Street for the rodeo from Vintage Church on West Street.

After meeting up with our crew, we started at the information tent to see the list of food trucks. We ended up in line at OnlyBurger. The line was long but it goes pretty fast when you’re catching up with friends and running into other pals.

OnlyBurger gave fantastic service; they even spelled my name right and joked with me about pronouncing Sarah “with an H” correctly. And they got my order right, combined with making me laugh – very impressive! And to top it off, they offer veggie and turkey options in addition to beef burgers. I’m a fan! I had a fresh turkey burger with swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and ketchup on a toasted bun. If you get a single combo, you get fresh cut fresh fries – DELISH!

We all got food and headed over to the post office steps to people watch (one of my favorite pastimes) and eatphoto 1-1 our food. Then we headed back out to get dessert. We ended up at The Ice Queen Ice Cream truck for dessert. Their specialty – REAL DEAL ice cream sammiches. But they also have hand scooped ice cream, milk shakes and novelty pops. I split a Cookie Monster ice cream sammich with my friend, Robyn. Tip: don’t share on a hot night or you’re in for a mess, but the laughs were totally worth it.

For your retail needs, you can also hit up all the exhibitors including House of Swank, and my good buddy Joe’s fouryou designs & apparel.

It doesn’t end there, looking for an adult beverage? Ten local breweries were represented last night including Big Boss, Raleigh Brewing, Carolina Brewing and Aviator. See the full list here: http://downtownraleighfoodtruckrodeo.com/beer/

It gets EVEN better: A 20 speaker event sound system covers all 8 city blocks. We enjoyed the old school tunes playing in the background.

Robyn pretty much summed it up: “I wish every night could be as fun as last night!” … What a great way to spend a summer Sunday night!
